FAQ’s
Do I need to bring my own tent? You can bring your own tent, but you don’t have to. We will have 3 and 4 person tents and you will be paired with other attendees. If you are a parent/guardian, we will do our best to pair you into the same tents and at least in the same tent group.
Do I need to bring food? Food and drinks and snacks will be provided. We will be preparing and cooking our meals as part of the learning process. You can bring your own snacks and food and medication that you need due to dietary restrictions that we can’t accommodate. We will do our best to accommodate those restrictions.
Will the meat be halal/zabihah? Yes, we follow strict standards regarding meat and we will actually be slaughtering our own meat for one of the meals, so you can see the zabihah in action!
Why so expensive? The price of this camp is actually heavily discounted for the cost of the activities, facilities and skills provided. All food and tents are provided and each attendee will receive a survival pack along with other items needed for the activities. The level of skills taught in this camp combined with religious teachings has not been offered anywhere before (that we know of).
Do we need a parent/guardian for each child or can there be a group guardian? You can have a group guardian for multiple minors such as a masjid group, or home school group, or youth group. We recommend having one guardian for every 5 minors if possible.
Bathrooms and showers? We will have a basic “natural” outdoor bathroom and shower for a realist survival scenario in addition to portable toilets.
I’m coming from out of state, how do I get to the camp, where should I stay? For those driving in, we plan on meeting after jumuah on September 5th. Jumuah is at 12:45 at the ICCR, the address can be found on this website. We will be sending the address of the camp to those who register. For those flying in, it is recommended to fly into the Cedar Rapids airport (CID). We have many direct flights. The ICCR is about 12 minutes from the airport, and the camp is about 25 minutes from the airport. If you come in Thursday night, there are many reasonable hotels in the area that are close by the ICCR or the camp. Some hotels in Cedar Rapids close to the camp arw the Hilton Garden, Days Inn & Suites by Wyndham, Comfort Inn & Suites. You can also easily rent a car from the airport or get an Uber to the camp. If you fly out on Monday or just want a nice shower on Sunday, you can also get a hotel for that day as well. There will be an opportunity to connect with others from out of state to share hotels or rental cars if needed. Other nearby airports are in Moline, IL and Dubuque, IA.
What experience do the coaches have? Our coaches have years of experience in survival, outdoor activities, hunting, camping and leading Hajj groups. They also have experience in sports and self-defense like wrestling, Judo, Jiu-Jitsu and boxing. Alhamdulillah.
What is the refund policy? We allow refunds up to 2 weeks before the start of the camp due to the time needed to order supplies and food in time for the camp.
